Our story

Matcha Bloom began with one very good bowl of matcha, and a wish to share that calm, happy feeling with everyone.

One unforgettable bowlis where it all began

Where it began

From a tiny kitchen to your morning ritual

It started on an ordinary grey morning, with a tin of matcha a friend had brought home from a trip. We sifted, whisked and took a sip, and it was nothing like the matcha we thought we knew: bright, silky and gently sweet. One bowl turned a rushed morning into a quiet little moment, and we were hooked.

Finding that feeling again was harder than it should have been. So much of what we tried tasted dull or bitter, and the advice out there was confusing, or a little intimidating. Grades, temperatures, bamboo whisks: it felt like you needed a teacher just to get started.

So we started Matcha Bloom, testing, tasting and whisking far too many bowls in our tiny kitchen. The idea was simple: vibrant, shade-grown matcha from Japan that feels special, with friendly guides and easy kits that help anyone make a really good cup, from their very first whisk.

With love, from our kitchen to yours

How matcha is made

From leaf to whisk

Good matcha can't be rushed. Here's the gentle journey behind every tin, from sunny tea fields in Japan to your favorite bowl.

  1. Shade-grown

For about four weeks before harvest, the tea bushes are gently shaded to deepen their color and sweetness.

  2. Hand-harvested

Only the youngest, most tender leaves are picked during the first flush of spring.

  3. Steamed & dried

The leaves are lightly steamed to keep them vivid green, then dried, with stems and veins removed.

  4. Stone-ground

Granite stones turn slowly, so the leaves stay cool and fragrant as they become a silky powder.

  5. Packed fresh

Sealed in small batches in airtight tins, so it reaches you bright, fresh and ready to whisk.
